Early Beginnings,1985

 

 

     Ramona started designing clothes in 1992 at the young age of 12 years old. She attended a Private School and her studies always came before designing. She maintained a 4.0 GPA at Covington Christian Academy 6, years in a row. She won many Academic Awards and Honors each year including (Most Improved Student) (Excellent Penmanship 1st Place In Writing) (A-Honor Roll) and (Highest GPA In Her Class) to name a few. When her studying was done she loved watching VH1 Fashion TV and MTVs House Of Style hosted by Cindy Crawford. She spent her time reading VogueIn Style Elle and Cosmopolitan magazine. Watching the Academy Awards was the highlight of her year and was inspiration for many of her Design Sketches. The movie Pret-a-Porter  was an inspiration to her Fashion Portfolio development and the song Here Comes The Hotstepper became her favorite jam. Over the next few the years while in her teens she built an impressive Fashion Illustration Portfolio. After graduating from Covington High School in 1997 she submitted her Portfolio to the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California and was accepted into their school of Fashion Design. She later went on to study Fashion Merchandising at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana. She maintained a 4.0 GPA and joined Gamma Beta Phi. During her time at University Ramona studied  Digital Art, Clothing Construction, Textiles, Fashion History, Clothing & Human Behavior, Interior Design, Computer Science, Visual Merchandising, and Marketing.

Early Life and Education:

        Ramona Jenkins "Mona" is an American Fashion Designer (born October 29, 1979) in the small town of Covington, Louisiana. As a child she loved playing dress up with Barbie  and Paper Dolls. She would often walk to the local Library on weekends and check out books on Fashion History. Her favorite Designers were Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger. This is where her love for Fashion Design began.

Honors 

Career:

      During her college career Ramona worked for Ruby boutique where she met Fashion Designer Billy Reid learning about the Fashion Industry first hand. She later went on to work for Gap Inc. as a Visual Merchandiser. Ramona's fashion career started in 2004 when she launched her label Fleur-de-Lis Pret-a-Porter along with her first line of handbags. Within a few months her handbags were being sold wholesale to many boutiques within the United States. Her bags were featured in Fashion Author T.J Reid's News Letter and St. Tammany Farmer. Later that year she went on to sell her handbags at the Historic French Market in New Orleans to consumers from around the world including Australia, Germany, and France. In 2024 Ramona celebrated the 20th anniversary of her brand Fleur-de-Lis Pret-a-Porter and decided to relaunch her brand with a new line of handbags. The brands name is French and is representative of Louisiana's French Heritage. She is proud to call Dallas, Texas her brands corporate home.

Personal Life:

     Ramona's favorite hobbies are gardening, decorating, and cooking. She enjoys practicing sustainable gardening and growing organic vegetables. In 2020 she turned her yard into a Wildlife Habitat and is registered with the National Wildlife Federation.  She is active in Philanthropy through walking/running 5ks with The Run Project, serving in the community with Home Team, and organizing food drives for The Bridge Dallas. She has also participated in fundraising for the American Cancer Society and SAMMinistries by donating handbags for Silent Auction. Ramona is a single Mom and lives in Plano, Texas with her 2 children and 3 cats.

The Brand:

     Ramona created the name Fleur-de-Lis Pret-a-Porter her Senior year of College. The name is French and means Flower-of-Lily Ready-to-Wear in English. It represents New Orleans French heritage, French architecture, and French culture. Studying Digital Art in College gave her the skills to Digitally Design the Brands Fleur-de-Lis Label. The label colors she chose are Fuchsia Pink & Black. The Fleur-de-Lis is designed with Polka Dots and Stripes both iconic prints in Fashion. The Fleur-de-Lis represents Louisiana where Ramona Is from and New Orleans where her Brand Originated. Each of her Handbag Designs are named after a Street in New Orleans where she first sold her Handbags Named the Vieux Carr'e Collection. Other colllections are named after towns, rivers, and lakes in south Louisiana.

Being true to yourself and embracing who you are through fashion is the essence of style. We want our designs to be as unique and diverse as you are. It is our hope that we will enable you to express yourself and your style through our brand.  Our goal is to focus on construction and manufacturing to ensure high quality ready to wear designs that are iconic, classic, in current trends, and never go out of style.
